Background

Precisely aligning elements in Power BI can be time-consuming. Small differences in position, size or spacing quickly make a dashboard appear inconsistent. Complex layouts require repeated calculations, and later changes often force several neighbouring elements to be adjusted again. Power BI does not provide a separate planning surface that shows all dimensions and relationships in one place.

Defined solution

The application provides a configurable pixel grid on which report elements are represented as rectangles. Width, height and position can be changed directly or entered numerically. Elements can be named, colour-coded, duplicated and placed above, below or beside one another with a defined gap.

The finished arrangement acts as a precise implementation plan. Values are transferred once to Power BI or another visualisation tool; no automatic connection to Power BI is required. This keeps the workflow transparent and makes the planner useful across different reporting environments.

Outcome & value

The tool creates one visual source of truth for a report layout. Consistent dimensions and spacing are easier to maintain, changes can be assessed in context and repeated structures no longer need to be recalculated manually. Planning becomes faster while the final dashboard looks calmer and more professional.

Technical implementation

The responsive web application manages a configurable canvas and a structured set of layout elements in the browser. Its source is versioned openly on GitHub and the hosted version can be used without local installation.
